Your life needs a little struggle!

Sometimes your life needs a little struggle in order to grow, to be better and stronger. It is necessary. These are your growing pains.

“God instructs the heart, not by ideas, but by pains and contradictions.”

As the child of parents this is what I have come to realise. I am actually reminded of a time that I sat my parents down one day to tell them to let up a bit, to let me live, to let me make mistakes and learn from them. I remember I suggested that maybe they could let us as kids get involved in our own parenting. I was probably sounding really retarted then I can imagine and maybe a little even now but the more I think about it, it is inevitable. Sooner or later you’re out on your own, making your own decisions, your own mistakes anyway and all you have is your intuition, your experiences and God waiting to catch you. That kind of faith requires a certain level of trust. The kind of trust that isn’t to be toyed with I might add. It sort of creeps up on you gradually and it sets in slowly.

I guess it’s kind of like learning how to ride a bike isn’t it? You have training wheels at first, then you think you know I’m good I can do this. You take them off you trust yourself and all that you know. It is of course comforting or not to know that what you think you know combined with what everyone on the planet thinks they know is probably a fragment of God’s infinite wisdom.

Ok where was I. Oh yes! Your life needs a little struggle. Which is kind of why I’m awake right now at 1:55am on a Tuesday morning because I am struggling to sleep. I’ll figure it out i’m sure. It’s kind of like an alarm clock. Hence the blog, it’s all very poetic I swear, maybe a little more in my mind right now.

Your life needs a little struggle. Trust me no one has it that good. Ask Joseph, Job, ask Jesus. Success comes with pain. They are wedded. You have to go through it.

“Love sometimes expresses itself in sacrifice.”

Your life needs a little struggle. If that alarm clock doesn’t ring, you better be worried because you might be missing out something big in your life. When your very old car breaks down every other week, alarm clock “get a new car”. When you’re out of breath from chasing your daughter around the table, once, alarm clock, “go to gym or take up jogging” if you want to live long enough to see her graduation. If your whole life seems like it’s a struggle then you have been snoozing for far too long and it’s time to get up and live. Most importantly trust God that he will meet you halfway even all of the way if he has to. That’s God’s favour.

The truth is that It’s easier to trust God for others than to trust God for your own life. God knows, he made you.

Your life needs a little struggle.

Wake Up!

Everyone should smile…

Make sure that Jesus is in your boat so you can smile at the storm.

It is exactly the process that makes people see life as either worth living or not. It’s hard for a man on the street, who has no home, clothes, food to eat to see to it that way, to see the ‘Bigger Picture’ as it were. Sunrise is just a signal of yet another day of struggle perhaps. I have never considered myself to be disadvantaged or less fortunate even when I did not have this kind of understanding of God’s Grace and Purpose for mankind.

For you and I, someone who has been blessed or rather let me say has accepted the kind of wisdom that only God can give a man or a woman this seems rather simple and straightforward. I wake up every morning and I say “Thank you Lord for this life, thank you for your love and your mercy”. I know the things that God has done for me and I have it my heart the hopes of what I desire for my life. I have these experiences, others don’t, which is the sad part. This is why we are called to be a blessing to one another, this is why we need each other, this is what that man on the street is waiting for.

Proverbs 8:18 GNT

I have riches and honour to give, prosperity and success

1 Corinthians 2:9 GNT

However, as the scripture says, “What no one ever saw or heard, what no one ever thought could happen, is the very thing God has prepared for those who love him”

Sometimes everything in between is as much relevant as the ‘bigger picture’. That God’s Grace is enough for you and for me no matter what who or what you think you are. That above everything God loves you his children.

Love is the essence of God’s character. God is a God of Love. The kind of love that’s difficult to fathom, but it’s fundamentally reliable.

Remind someone today that God loves them immeasurably. Make sure that before the Sun sets that you have at least made one person’s day more bearable than it might have been when they woke up.

Have a blessed Sunday ♡

We Majored

It would ve unbecoming of me not to add my friend Zama to this list of greats. Congrats buddy. You did well. Young and Educated.

MagebaTheOne

So recently some of my friends graduated,  and clearly I’m not going to pass up this opportunity to brag about God’s achievement through these young people.

What really caught my attention though however were all the proud parents, family, friends, fellow students in the audiance and how PROUD they all were of their graduates. As well they damn well aught to be, they journey that one embarks on to that day is quite challenging and tasking for any individual. What stands out here though is that this is clearly not a journey that one takes alone. It reminds me of my High School motto “Non Nobis Solum” which means “Not for us alone”. Something bigger is happening here!

I want to try something a little different with this post as a kind of ‘thank you’ – to you. I’ve been so overwhelmed by just how awesome many of you have been, not just by supporting and congratulating me, but also by encouraging me on my writing journey. I was especially moved after my last post with the computer issues, because a whole heap of you contacted me with ideas, insight, and amazingly-helpful advice. Even those of you who didn’t have any answers still contacted me with words of compassion, which was super-lovely! You all, in a word, rock.

So, this post is for you. I only hope it encourages you in some way!

You might be a writer. You might be a dancer. You might be an artist, a chef, a teacher, a mother, a doctor, a carpenter, a student, a janitor, a musician, a preacher, a lawyer, a politician… You…

Breakable

A very long time ago, yes I love making myself seem like an old soul, anyway I used to be good at this poetry thing but not so much these days. Primarily because I don’t really give it time anymore. So it happens that last week I stumbled onto a poem I wrote years ago that my best friend Precious recently sent to me. Bless her soul, she had actually kept it from our highschool days.

Totally unaware, I’m reading this poem thinking jeez this isn’t half bad and quite frankly it’s making me feel nostalgic for a reason I can’t pin down. Yes I also happen to have a shocking memory *hides*.

Here’s the poem, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did reading it so many years later all thanks to my dear friend.

PS: don’t judge, maybe I was going through some stuff. Hey it happens. *jokes*

Breakable

Sometimes I can’t tell whether life is simple or complicated.
Whether it’s intricate detail is more than meets the eye.
It’s true the beholder shall see what he must.
Their vulnerable hearts and judgements they must trust.

And some things we must believe from those we see.
Those we might deny but undoubtedly feel.
Funny thing “free will”, it’s wrong to feel hatred but we are at liberty to do so.
Then choice comes into the midst as the dust settles.
To drive a wedge between what is and what should be!

Why is it that glass breaks?
Only to assume that ‘matter’ suffers such a fate.
But yet so do hearts, hypothetical cracks but real aches and pain…
So do we feel, but be weary?

Do we take those leaps of faith?
Do we dare walk off the pavement?
Do we rely on the very strings our lives, our hearts hang on?
Do we trust even though breakable?

People make their own lives complicated…
With their complicated thoughts and feelings.
We are all architects of our own happiness.
Love abundantly, freely, with vigor yet with grace, patients and thoughtfulness.
